Celebrate by downloading free apps for your students. I just wanted to point out that one of my favorite typing apps is free today, Typing Class from Permeative. It’s not typing instruction where you repetitively hit letters to learn how to type (you know…. fj fj fj fjdk), but a place to play typing games to practice skills.
I would like to share a useful iPad integration tip for teachers. If you are like me, sometimes you project your iPad for your whole class for a lesson (or workshop in my case) and you need a laser pointer to point out items on the screen, but don’t have one handy. You can use the “assistive touch” as a make shift pointer. I mean it when I say make-shift. Assistive Touch is not a pointer. It’s an accessibility setting for your iPad to help people with fine motor difficulties use the iPad. It looks like a circle with a little box around it. As a pointer, you can touch and drag the little box all over the screen to point out items while you teach. But as an accessibility feature, you tap it and it will bring up a sub menu that will allow you to control your iPad. Assistive Touch can swipe to turn a page, double tap, view notifications panel, click the home button, etc all with a single tap. Some people also use this feature if their iPad button stops working because it gives you an alternative access to the home button. Click the link learn more:
