There are lot of interactive storybooks this week, but I was drawn to the math apps for some reason. This week I found some fun math apps for all age levels!

Errorless introduction of numbers using puzzles. So the number one has 1 puzzle piece, number two has 2 pieces and so on. Occupational Therapists can work on finger isolation and drag and drop skills.

One of the descriptions I read about this math game is that it was like the 1980's video game Qbert. I didn't play that game so I couldn't tell you if that's an accurate description. In any case, you are given a sum to look for and a bunch of little candies with math problems on them. You tap the candy that your guy has to jump to to make the sum. You can play solo, multi-player (through game center) or split screen. Occupational therapists can work on visual discrimination and scanning, but make sure your student is confident in their math skills, you don't want to work on too many things at one time. I actually started up a split screen game with my husband who was sitting on the couch next to me. It was actually fun! Makes me wish you could connect it to a smart board though, it would would take it to a whole another level.

This game didn't launch at first. It turns out my storage space was low, so I had to delete this app (and several others) and re-down load it. The concepts in the app doesn't seem like middle school but 3rd-5th grade. It includes number sense, place value, math facts, fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, measurement and geometry. However, the interface and graphics are appropriate middle school. This is a good thing because many of the math apps for basic math skills are very young looking and not engaging for my older students who are not on grade level.
