This Halloween themed app involves you tapping on your friend in a ghost costume and scaring your friends in several visual scenes. Not only is it super cute, it sneakingly works on finger isolation, figure ground, accuracy in targeting and dragging skills (I'm talking to you Occupational Therapists!)

I am always on the lookout for elementary level apps that can be used with older students (middle or high school). This app works on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Instead of students do math problems with young voices, animations or random objects (fruit, animals) as manipulatives, it's blocks. No number lines, bars, or grids. Just blocks. The thing I don't like about the app is all of the problems are all presented vertically. I like to see them mixed up a little.

This is one of my all time favorites. It's an easy to use graphic organizer that has both a software and an iPad version. You can use one of the pre-made templates or start out with a simple bubble in the middle of the page to start your brainstorming. Once you are all finished, you can email your work to yourself.

There is a full version of this app for $9.99, so you are limited to a few documents and most of the cooler features are not available. Yet this lite version is still pretty powerful.

This is a simple, errorless puzzle app of kitten photographs where you drag pieces and it will snap if you get within half an inch. You can select 4-24 pieces and options for backgrounds and piece outlines. This app is also great for Occupational Therapists for working on visual/perceptual skills.

You get a frog guy and use number lines and math manipulatives to solve math problems. If you get it wrong, you get a 'x' and if you get it right, you get a check. I like that you manipulate the number line or tap your frog for cubes. It took me a few minutes to get the hang of it, so plan on working with the student when he or she first uses it. Like most math apps, you need to teach these math models for it to be effective for the student for independent practice.

This app is great for early elementary students who are learning the concept of creating sentences with pre-made word cards. You are given a picture prompt and then word cards that are scrambled. You either drag to the sentence window or just tap to build the sentence. What I really like about this app is that you have the option to put the punctuation mark is its own card so it doesn't give the student the extra hint on word order. You also have other options to give turn on/off hints, put in distractor cards and set the number of sentences the student is working on (and several other options). I love that it allows you to make your own sentences and it takes data! It's made by the same folks who makes Bitsboard, so if you have experience in creating activities in this app, you will already be familiar with the layout and settings.
